if you know me at all, then you know I have a real problem that consumes my life. Day in and day out. What is it you ask? Well I have a hard time saying no to people I like. People that ask me for help usually get it. Somebody needs a blog? I usually host it. Portfolio site? I’m usually building it. Want me to teach you something, I usually will. The one problem with all of this is that my time for myself easily gets left by the wayside, personal projects get put on a backburner that seems to stretch into the distance, never moving up in the que.

I’m struggling to find a way to keep myself and people I care for happy. It’s a tough road but I think from here on out, I need to help myself first, others second. There are plenty of things I wish I would have done by now. Some simple, others requiring my attention for a longer period of time.

What happens now? Whats the plan?

Plan is to take everything that is currently on my plate and get rid of it, finish it. Kill it and bill it so to speak. While this happens I’ll make structured plans to get my personal projects in order so I can accomplish them at a steady pace.

I’ve realized that I’ve done alot for others but not much for myself in the last few years. I need to be greedy and try and make myself happy by doing the things I spend time dreaming about. Making myself happier is the ultimate goal, that happiness fed by the accomplishments I feel I need to do.

Sorry to say that I can’t help you, I need to help me…

Jen will rock the dance teacher conference while I tackel the big apple all by myself for a small part of the trip. Planned stops for me are various shops I don’t have in Toronto, canal street and maybe even the shaolin temple.

Honestly can’t wait to go and even tho we’ll be without the embot I’ll try and make the most of it despite missing my little one. Um. That’s about it. Work is crazy busy. Just upgraded the lappy to leopard and should be able to sort out the frsh blog on about a week once I get back home.

This morning at our creative re-group I had to stand up in front of the class and tell my peers and the people at the main agency who I was and how I got to where I’m at today.

here are my notes, I dont really like talking infront of people and especially about myself but I’m told it went well… these were my cliffs notes to make sure I didnt forget anything, typed on my treo from the train ride home the night before.

Notes about my career.
In the 6 th grade I found out about graphic design from my dad the photography teacher

I skipped highschool and sold shoes for 5 years and was going to be a nike ekin but they made less money than an entry level graphic designer so I went to college instead

george brown for 3 years magoring in design, was incredibly bored and spent time discovering online communities of like minded designers and began teaching myself flash.

Finished school without a portfolio or ‘book’ but instead I had a job at helios.

At helios I became a lead flash developer and art director as well I became a motion graphics operator after my first year there while working on some kids choice awards for nickelodeon.

At helios I learned to do product photoshoots on non existent budgets. Blow up celebrities interact with robots and crush just about anything. I built complete sites by myself and have run the gamut in brands that i’ve worked with both online and in broadcast and some print.

Client list
ytv
ok47
dodge
nike
virgin mobile canada
temple street productions
nicelodeon
fuse tv
vice
k2
second city
archives of canada

moved to maclaren in april of 2005 and i’m currently an interactive art director

i’m 95% on chev caddy and hummer
my last big project was the gm youth portal

grew up skateboarding and rollerblading and in my off office hours I spend helping out friends with various companies

francoshade
director victor solomon
photographer lynnette astaire
motion graphics artist matt andrews

you can check out regalbear.com

i’m part of a collective of like minded designers who upkeep a blog that discusses shoes skate and other mash culture life style topics. Exclusivestm.com

we also have a collective by which we are comissioned work . Tentively called the duplex collective url

newsletter info coming soon

i’m married to my oh so luverly wife jen and I have a 5 month old girl named emily

I enjoy long walks with humans on the beach. Hot sauce in large quantities and anything with the following

vectors
pixels
actionscript
xml
hex values
ambient occlusion
sub surface scattering
global illumination
half cabs

if you got question or are generally inquisitive bow is a good time to ask questions

Last week the family procured a Nintendo Wii system.(thanks terri, eric and johnathan!) It took me until thursday to play it since Emliy surprisingly doesn’t enjoy watching me meticulously unbox new electronics and move old systems around (sorry gamecube) rewire bits and generally set things up in a neat and orderly manner, tho I’ll have to admit that my solution for the systems in the cabnet beside the TV has its faults the excitement of the Wii kind of overshadowed everything else.

Let me say that this system is a dream to set up. 3 sets of cords to plug in, the RCA, Wii sensor bar and the powerblock. The system itself is quite small and takes up literally no space when used vertically in the provided stand. With the Wii set up on wednesday, thursday was my first play night.

I’m going to have to give it up to nintendo while the system boots fast the one thing I noticed is that there is no launch screen, I was so accustomed to the Gamecube start up screen that I was really looking forward to seeing the Wii start up. Sadly I’m only greeted with a warning not to smash myself or others around me.

The menu system that was developed for the Nintendo DS are in my opinion brilliant. Simple clean and to the point. You can navigate everything so simply. This still holds true to the Wii and while I would have loved to see the two systems share common design cues I can easily be swayed. Set up consists of naming your system entering the date and time. Online set up was simple since I have an open network at home it picked up the wireless signal no problem and I found myself with a set up and newly updated system in about 15 min.

So far the system is great, both Jen and I are highly addicted to bowling while golf seems to be our least favorite sport. I’m getting the hang of boxing but it will take some time getting used to and figuring out all the combinations for the different punches, for seemingly simple concepted games there are alot of intricate things built into each of the sports.

I’m attempting to play the wii for a half hour each day to see if it affects my fitness level, I’ve been bitten by the Wii workout bug and while I type this with the sorest body I’ve had for a long time I’ve been playing through the pain to try and keep my wii sports age low, after an injury filled weekened I’m back up to 35 while on friday i was as low as 26.

we’ll definitly see how this thing goes.

Its been a bit since i blogged on the personal tip. Most times I’m trying hard enough to blog on exclusives™ and I rarely like to mention any personal news most of you might not already know. Plus I’ve been updating the em-bot site with loads more pictures and I WAS getting my relax on with a nice break over the holidays.

Part of me wishes I could tell you whats going on with things but part of me wants none of you to know and if you do know its cause I personally told you whats up. Got some surprisingly big things in store for the 2007 season of drew and company. more work, loads more fun and hopefully by the summer time a skatimg comeback and finally lacing BS Royals like… well actually lacing them.
